Let’s Look at Art is a docent-led outreach program that has been bringing visual art appreciation presentations to Santa Clara County Schools since 1968. Today, Let’s Look at Art serves an average of 30,000 students in 1,000+ classrooms each year. The program’s mission is to provide interactive visual arts education experiences that foster awareness and appreciation of art and challenge students to build critical thinking skills through visual analysis. Drawing on strategies for engaging children in dynamic conversations about works of art, docents help students look at the world from various perspectives, learn art vocabulary that can be utilized in other aspects of their education, build self-esteem, and see how art plays a critical role in their communities.
Trained educators bring portfolios to individual classrooms throughout Santa Clara County, and facilitate inquiry-based discussions that last 45 – 60 minutes. The images are chosen for developmental appropriateness and for their capacity to harmonize with the California Visual Arts Content Standards.
All participating students receive a family pass good for admission to the Museum.
