In a typical school year, Music for Minors serves 25,000 elementary school students in 900 classrooms throughout Santa Clara and San Mateo counties with core music education. We provide music in 68 schools in 14 school districts, and work collaboratively to tailor the best solutions to the challenge of providing comprehensive and affordable programs. Our curriculum is in alignment with the California Content Standards for Music.
Music for Minors programs actively engage children in many facets of music such as singing, movement, theory, dance, musical games, listening (across eras and around the world), and use of rhythm instruments. In the third – fifth grades, students learn to play the recorder thus further laying the foundation for participation in instrumental music programs in the upper grades.
As of March 2020 Music for Minors quickly pivoted so that children could continue to receive music education — directly in their homes. Our program–curriculum, resources and teacher training– has been fully adapted to a live-stream online lesson format. This fall, given the ongoing conditions of distance learning, Music for Minors is serving thousands of students each week through our virtual program. We expect to be back for the next school year for in-person classes. Please contact us for more details.
